FIFA 2018 is more fun than we expected it to be. With underdogs defeating the giants of the tournament, FIFA 2018 surprised the whole world.
Well, the series of surprises does not end here! Recently, an unbelievable news began to spread soon after the match between Nigeria and Argentina that the father of Nigeria's captain Mikel John Obi's father was kidnapped just hours before the match.
WHAAAAAAAT? The fact that Nigerian captain Mikel John Obi played the game with the knowledge that his father has been kidnapped, is bone-chilling.
As per the reports, Nigerian player could not inform the authorities because the kidnappers had threatened him that they'll shoot his father if the news went public.
Mikel was quotes in a report by The Guardian as, "I played while my father was in the hands of bandits. I had to suppress the trauma. I took a call four hours before kick-off to tell me what had happened."
But Mikel proved to be more of a fine player than a scared son whose father has been held by some crooks. Mikel added, "I did not know what to do but, in the end, I knew that I could not let 180 million Nigerians down. I had to shut it out of my head and go and represent my country first. I could not even inform the coaches or NFF staff and only a very tight circle of my friends knew."
Despite being in the middle of catastrophe, Mikel led his team brilliantly throughout the game but failed in defeating the titans, Argentina.
Well, the good news is that Mikel's father has been released by the kidnappers and is receiving proper aid. Stay tuned for more sports related updates.
