Ballon dÓr or the Golden Ball is one of the most important events in a professional soccer players' life. An annual football award presented by France Football, Ballon dÓr began in 1956. Although between 2010 and 2015, an agreement was made with FIFA and the award was temporarily merged with the FIFA World Player of the Year which was later known as FIFA Ballon dÓr Award.
Where Ballon dÓr was originally meant only for European players, it expanded for all the European clubs. And in 2017, players all around the globe were being invited for competing with the best. The best soccer player on the face of earth, Lionel Messi has won five Ballon dÓr awards but we doubt that there will be another addition to his fleet of Ballon dÓrs.
Here are four reasons which prove that Messi may not win a Ballon dÓr this year:
Football season started on a very bright note for FC Barcelona. But an early exit from Champions League has ripped of the tag of 'Ínvincibles' from FC Barcelona. Argentinians were not happy with the result and Messi was standing right in the middle of it which is also a reason why we think that Messi will not win Ballon dÓr this year.
Mohamed Salah Ghaly aka Mo Salah, an Egyptian football player gave his best to prove that he is exceptionally talented, this season. Salah broke the Premier League record for most goals scored in a season by overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Alan Shearer. He has already bagged the title of PFA Player of the Year award and Ballon dÓr is not far away.
Barcelona without Messi
Recently, Barcelona lost a match against 'rookie' Spain team in a friendly. Argentinians managed to score only a single goal against them. Although, Messi was not a part of the game but it shows that Argentinians are nothing without their Messi which makes it even more difficult for Messi to win his 6th Ballon dÓr Award.
We all know that the first half of 2018 was not as good for Ronaldo as it was supposed to be. Cristiano looked completely out of form. But he surely knows how to turn things around with a kick and hence, he started scoring goals. It won't be wrong to say that Ronaldo is unstoppable this time. So, it won't be wrong to say that Ronaldo may bag home Ballon dÓr Award.
So, do you still think that Messi will win this award, that too sixth time in a row? Stay tuned for more sports related updates.
