Cricket is more of a religion in India than a sport. Indians are crazy about cricket and cricketers. No kidding, Indians love naming their kids after the names of some of the most successful cricketers
Undoubtedly, India is the home to world's craziest cricket-fans. But it won't be wrong to say that the Indian cricket team is equally crazy. As Virendra Sehwag became 'Viru', every cricketer has a nickname and also, there is a story behind every nickname.
Here are the nicknames of your favourite Indian cricketer and the story behind it:
Cheeku (Virat Kohli)
In an interview Virat Kohli confessed that he was a little chubby when he was young and hence, his coach started calling him 'Cheeku' as in "Cheeku the rabbit" from Champak. Isn't it uber-cute?
Mahi (MS Dhoni)
Mahe was Dhoni's official nickname which is nothing but short for Mahendra. But later, as MSD gained popularity people started calling him "Mahi".
Ajju or Jinx (Ajinkya Rahane)
Both the nicknames are short for his first name; Ajju and Jinx. Where his close friends and family refer to him as Ajju, Shane Warner gave him the name Jinx.
Gabbar (Shikhar Dhawan)
Not many people know that Shikhar Dhawan is known as Gabbar not because of his facial-hair but due to his attitude. During his Ranji-days, Shikhar used to field at unusual points and used to mock the opposition team for demoralizing them, just like Gabbar used to.
Rockstar (Hardik Pandya)
Known for his eccentric style and attitude, Hardik Pandya is known as Rockstar in the changing room by his teammates. The name Rockstar was given to Pandya due to his unique dressing and grooming style.
