by Tanvi Vohra, Sunday, July 01, 2018

The writer that dealt with a dozen rejections from publishers to becoming one of the most successful authors, J.K Rowling makes her mark in the history of literature. Known to be the author of the world of "Harry Potter" J.K. Rowling was successful in turning a wizard boy into an entertainment franchise with its books, movies and plays. The path of life that J.K. Rowling went through is thus rather interesting.

J.K. Rowling is the President of Gingerbread

J.K. Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 n Yates, United Kingdom and as a child she constantly was writing and reciting stories to her younger sister. The 52 year old author's parents were never attended college. J.K. Rowling's mother was a high school science technician and her dad was an aircraft engineer at Rolls Royce. Rowling claims to have a teenage life that was filled with difficulties, though she did not have as bad as Harry living with the Dursleys in her novel. When the writer was 15, her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and died a decade later. The sad part is that till then, Rowling was not even a published author.

The writer was extremely interested in the study of French language which was later used when she came up with the names for the spells in the "Harry Potter" series. In the year 1990, Rowling started planning the "Harry Potter" series and the surprising element in the existence of the amazing series known Worldwide was that Rowling came up with its idea on a delayed train. The next five years, she outlined the main plots for the seven novels on the scrap of different papers.

Following it, the author moved to Portugal to teach English to students there, where she met and later married a television journalist, Jorge Arantes. In the later years, they had a baby girl; Jessica. Sadly, the couple was separated in November 1993.

The hardships of being a single mother were now experienced by the author, who without a job used to wander from one cafe to another in order to write her novel. During this period, she lived off the government welfare, a situation that lead to her political activism later in life.

Clearly, it is not easy to lead a life like that. J.K. Rowling in one of the interviews said that after a point of time it was really depressing for her and she looked for a professional help. This depression phase is seen clearly in Dementors in her "Harry Potter" books. She also attended therapy sessions to treat her depression.

However, the author got herself together and in 1995 she finished with her first "Harry Potter" book and sends it to the publishers. Her high hopes were drained when the book was rejected by the publishers- not once but nearly 12 times. But, as it is said "If there is a will, there's a way" and Rowling finally sighed the deal with a small publisher of only 500 copies with the pen name "J.K." for she believed that the young boys may not be interested in reading a novel by a woman back then.

Soon after, nearly 3,00,000 copies were sold in the UK, followed by the second book, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" which received huge acclaim and sales.

The wave that started with the first book only increased all the way till the seventh book and the fame flourished all through. After the first movie was released, based on the novel, Rowling remarried. She was so famous till then that she wore a disguise when she bought her wedding dress before the wedding.

Apart from the famous series of "Harry Potter", Rowling is also known for novels "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", and "The Silkworm". With her fortune, she has made a lot of charities. Also, she is the president of Gingerbread, an organisation that supports single parents. In remembrance of her mother, she has donated millions for the study of multiple sclerosis, due to which her mother died.

It seems like the author has no stop and is still full with creativity. Stay tuned for more Celebrity Life updates.Follow our Bollywood Magazine For Latest Bollywood News and Gossips.
