Varun Dhawan is getting exclusive on the latest cover of GQ India opening up about his journey as an actor and how the industry has led him to develop a thick skin. On the photo spread, the 30-year-old looks dapper donning colourful numbers from Hermes, Zegna, Dior, etc.
I wish I could have lived more, experienced more.
Talking to the magazine’s Megha Shah, the Dishoom star reflects on the roles his movie character have made him play in real life. “I love being in films, but it’s difficult to know yourself after fame. When I think of who I am as a person, I remember that point just before I became an actor.” Tag along as we uncover some more about Varun from the feature.
In the picture, the Dilwale actor is wearing a woollen blazer in the colour of the season—mustard. On his feet are Dior Homme calfskin boots featuring decorative perforated straps. The long sweater with zip fastening comes in a ribbed version made from knit black wool and has zip pockets at the sides for efficient practicality.
Varun says he listens to his father as much as any 30-year-old would. His director father David Dhawan, the actor revealed, would often advise him to take the most commercial film. “But I think he’s slowly understanding my need to express myself artistically in different types of films,” Varun shared, “If something moves him, he’ll give it a thumbs up.”
The Down Left
Varun is playing the reds and completely nailing it in the Hermes sweaters and pants. Stylist Vijendra Bhardwaj throws in a black and gold Baume et Mercier watch for a perfect finish.
In the last five years, Varun only remembers himself through the characters he had played. “I wish I could have lived more, experienced more,” he said.
Reality in Check
“Karan Johar is someone who keeps me very grounded,” Varun lauded his mentor and director, “Every month he gives me a piece of his mind and brings me back to reality.”
The Student Of The Year star is wearing shirt and belt from Diesel’s F/W 2017 collection Diesel Black Gold. The ankle boots and the pair of skinnies are from Dsquared2 and Julien MacDonald.
Pick up GQ India’s September 2017 issue for the full interview—everything Varun and more.
Meanwhile Varun is gearing up for the release of the much-awaited Judwaa 2 starring alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Tapsee Pannu. The movie, directed by his father David Dhawan, hits theatres on September 29.
