This popular movie is based on a novel written by Shrabani Basu and directed by Stephen Frears. The plot narrates the relationship shared by Queen Victoria (Dench) and Abdul (Ali), who portrays the role of a Munshi in her government. It also chronicles his journey on becoming one of the most powerful personalities in the court.

The film was racing against "I, Tonya", Blade Runner 2049","Darkest Hour" and "Wonder". "Victoria & Abdul" has received 2 Oscar nominations in a similar category divided into two different departments.

Consolata Boyle has been nominated in the Best Costume Design category.  Lou Sheppard  and Daniel Phillips look promising candidates to win over the Best Make-up and Hairstyling category.

The Oscars are scheduled to be held on 4 March 2018.
